Background
Today's business applications are complex. Software and system engineers utilize a wide range of technologies to build and deliver business applications that meet business needs. Reusable software components and Object-Oriented Design and Programming revolutionized software development in 1990's after which the idea evolved into introduction of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA).
SOA resulted in creation of a vast range of services that are delivered over the web in the form of products whose functions are incorporated into business applications. For example, a background check service could be used to check the background of an individual upon filling an employment application, another service could be used to determine for what products a loan applicant is qualified, and yet another service could be used to adjudicate a medical claim.
The Problem
Sound good, doesn't it? The reality is that our world changes all the times and it does so, rapidly. From business perspective these changes translate into new business needs which in turn trigger requirements to change the aforementioned services. Examples of these changes are introduction of new laws and regulations, changes in business objectives, and more.
